October 19, 2011
I will be appearing in Leadville, Colorado, at the Book Mine, on Sunday, October 23, from 2 pm till 4 or 5, meeting customers, maybe reading from Watt O’Hugh and signing books.
I will then speak in Laramie, Wyoming, on Tuesday, October 25 at 6 pm at the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site, at 975 Snowy Range Road. The Wyoming event is co-sponsored by the Albany County public library in Wyoming. More info on the event here.
Those of you who have read the book know that Watt O’Hugh finds himself locked up in the Wyoming Territorial Prison for a few chapters. In the years since Watt’s incarceration in 1875, the prison has been turned into a museum and tourist attraction.
Leadville is the mountaintop city where Watt finds himself in the penultimate chapter. Back then it was known as Slabtown and, popularly, “Cloud City”.
It’ll be great to read from Watt O’Hugh in the very spots where the book takes place.
